In Georgia, the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) prepares Georgia’s State, Local, and School Annual Report Cards. The Annual Report Cards contain test results as well as other information relevant to school performance toward the goals of student achievement and school completion. The Report Card is in compliance with both state and federal laws with respect to reporting requirements. GOSA partners with the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) to produce the K-12 Public Schools Reports since much of the data comes from GaDOE.
The Georgia Alternate Assessment 2.0 (GAA 2.0) is designed to ensure that students with significant cognitive disabilities are provided access to the state academic content standards and given the opportunity to demonstrate achievement of the knowledge, concepts, and skills inherent in the standards. The Georgia Standards of Excellence and Extended Content Standards for students with significant cognitive disabilities drive the curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment.
Whitfield County educators and community partners are helping provide teachers across the state with tools to better teach literacy. The Governor's Office of Student Achievement selected WCS to participate in a case study for the Growing Readers Program, a grant which provides high-quality professional learning to teachers on effective reading instruction. Georgia Public Broadcasting filmed lessons in two classrooms at Cedar Ridge Elementary to show how the grant is being implemented. Check out the video to see how Whitfield County Schools is making an impact!
In compliance with the Georgia Records Act, the Whitfield County School District’s records retention schedule, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regulations on destruction of data collected, maintained or used in the provision of a free and appropriate public education of students with disabilities in the District’s schools, the Special Education Department announces its intention to destroy special education records as indicated below after the following date: April 1, 2019.
As we continue to prepare for the 2019 Georgia Milestones, the GaDOE has developed Technology-Enhanced (TE) Item Examples for our students in grades 3-12. To get our students ready for this type of assessment, the GaDOE has created a video, PowerPoint with script for teachers to review the TE items, and Score Descriptions for teachers to use with students. For links to the video, PowerPoint, and a student practice test, click the headline above.
