At Whitfield County Schools, we are committed to open and accurate communication with our community. We value our relationship with members of the media and appreciate your role in sharing stories that matter. To ensure consistent, timely and accurate information—and to protect the safety and privacy of our students and staff—all media inquiries must follow the guidelines outlined below.

All media inquiries must be directed to:

Media Guidelines

  1. All media inquiries must be directed to the Director of Communications.
No principal, assistant principal, director, staff member or school-based employee is permitted to respond to media requests directly.
  2. Do not contact individual schools or district departments directly.
Media should not call, email or visit schools or staff members to request interviews, statements or access to campuses. All requests must go through the Communications Office.
  3. All interview and visit requests must be pre-approved.
This includes interviews with students, staff, administrators or district leadership, and requests to attend or cover school events. Approval must be obtained from the Director of Communications in advance.
  4. Student privacy is protected under federal law.
As outlined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), some students may not be photographed, filmed, or interviewed without the consent of their parents or legal guardians. We request that you respect these privacy considerations and obtain proper permissions when necessary.
  5. No filming or photography on school campuses without permission.
Media must receive prior approval from the Director of Communications before entering school grounds or district property for coverage.
  6. Crisis and emergency communications will be handled exclusively by the Communications Office.
In the event of a crisis, emergency, or urgent situation, only the Director of Communications or Superintendent will issue official statements.
  7. Requests for comment or information on district-wide matters will only be handled through the Communications Office.
This ensures messaging is accurate, consistent and aligned with district priorities and legal requirements.

Our Commitment

These guidelines are not intended to limit media access, but rather to ensure accuracy, consistency and protection of student and staff privacy. The Communications Office is here to support media partners by coordinating interviews, providing timely information and helping tell the stories of our schools in a professional and responsible way.

We appreciate your cooperation in following these procedures.
