Changes to Online Learning

Esta información está disponible en español aquí

With the majority of Whitfield County students returning for in-person instruction by October 29, our teachers will no longer be able to provide virtual instruction for students who are learning from home. However, all Whitfield County schools will still provide a virtual option for families.

Beginning November 2, all WCS virtual students will begin learning through online programs outsourced by the district. Schools will send instructions for accessing the programs to families by the end of October. This will not be a change for our high school students, who are already working on the Edgenuity platform.

Virtual students will access their academic classes through these programs, and they will be assigned to a Whitfield County employee who will monitor work in the program, check progress, and assist with answering questions during designated times of the school day.

Kindergarten through Second Grade

K-2 students will continue in Google Classroom and receive instruction through Pathblazers, an online program.  Students will continue to receive phonics instruction, and supplemental work will be assigned.

Third through Fifth Grade

Students in grades 3-5 will be enrolled in the online program Odysseyware.  The program will deliver course work for reading, math, science, and social studies.

Sixth through Eighth Grade

Students in grades 6-8 will be enrolled in the online program Edgenuity.  This is the same program used by WCS high school students, and the program will provide instruction for the middle school courses as well.

K-12 Students with IEPs, English Learners & Gifted Students

All K-12 virtual students with IEPs, English Learners, and Gifted students will continue to have a WCS teacher who will provide support and specialized instruction as needed in addition to the online program instruction.

If you feel this option is not right for your child, you may choose to bring your child back to school or contact the enrollment office (706-876-3955) to get information about withdrawing to attend GA Virtual School or to enroll in the Home School Program.
